About Bill Mundy
Bill Mundy is a nationally recognised leader in workforce development for the renewable energy sector. With over 20 years of experience across education, industry, and government, he brings extensive knowledge of how strategic partnerships, skilled workforces, and local engagement drive successful energy outcomes.
As the Director, Bill supports developers, energy generators, peak organisations, OEMs, and government agencies with consultancy services focused on training strategy, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainable community benefit. A unique combination of commercial acumen and social impact informs his work, having previously led the development of the Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC) at Federation University. Under Bill’s leadership, the centre attracted more than $10 million in government funding and significant industry support to address skills shortages in wind energy.
Bill's insights are shaped by international research, including a fellowship with the International Specialised Skills Institute. His global study of wind technician training models continues to influence Australia’s approach to vocational education for renewables.
Research and Insights
In 2023, Bill was awarded a prestigious International Specialised Skills Institute (ISSI) Fellowship, which enabled him to study global best practices in wind energy workforce training.
His research took him across leading wind energy nations, including the USA, UK, Germany, Denmark, and Spain, where he explored how technical training programs were preparing workers for both onshore and offshore wind roles. A key insight was the integration of electrical, mechanical, and safety competencies into streamlined, job-ready qualifications.
These findings have directly shaped the consultancy model at Mundy & Associates. Bill works with training providers, government agencies, and industry leaders to help align workforce strategies with global standards, ensuring Australia’s energy sector remains competitive and future-ready. A commitment to collaboration, qualification reform, and the development of inclusive, accessible, and industry-driven pathways informs his consultancy.
As traditional industries such as coal-fired power stations face closures, there is an urgent need to retrain workers for roles in the renewable energy sector. Bill’s work supports this transition by creating practical, regionally relevant training models that open pathways for displaced workers and emerging talent.
Looking ahead, Bill is focused on helping organisations build workforce capacity in a way that delivers value to communities and the energy sector.
